In a small, resilient community once shadowed by conflict, Pastor Richard saw an urgent need emerging in the lives of his neighbors. Many of them had been forcibly recruited by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in their youth when their village served as one of the LRA’s training grounds. For years, education had been seen as an unattainable luxury, with the basics of English and academic learning slipping out of reach during a time when survival was all that mattered.
As the community began to heal, many former child captives became parents themselves. However, the lack of educational opportunities they’d faced as children now posed new challenges for their families. Their children needed to know English to succeed in primary school, but most parents had neither the language skills nor educational background to support them.
Recognizing this need, Richard took action. He envisioned a pre-primary school to equip the next generation with the foundational English skills essential for success in school. With a blend of persistence and community support, Richard opened the doors to this small school in 2015.
From its earliest days, the impact was undeniable. The children, many of whom were the first in their families to receive formal education, thrived in the structured environment. They gained confidence in their English skills and went on to achieve top marks at the primary level, making their families and community proud. Through Richard's initiative, a new chapter began for his village, one where education empowered individuals and broke down barriers, offering children the chance to overcome barriers their parents had faced.
This shift marked a future of hope, resilience, and the promise of better opportunities for generations to come.
